Eurobrom3 Programme

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4th

  • 10:00 - 10:15: Welcome and Introduction

  • 10:15 - 10:45: "From the negative to the Bromide print"
Short presentation by Roberto Lavini on "how do I design digital curves to produce bromoil matrixes for different photographic papers" with examples of different digital negatives, the corresponding silver prints, bleached matrixes and finished bromoils. Discussion time: paricipants to present their own way to make a digital negative (inkjet printing, image setter, other..), or to show how they are working with traditional negatives. It would be particularly interesting to see what a typical negative, bromide print (before bleaching), bleached print and final bromoil looks like for each participant. We aim at a really "interactive" session.

  • 10:45h -- 11h15: "The Mediobrome" - a demo by Hubert Desgain
The mediobrome is a technique developped by Leonard Misonne, based on the traditional bromoil process. It is relatively simple and straightforward, and might as such be considered as an interesting option do start with oil-based processes.

  • 11:15 - 11:30: Break

  • 11:30 - 13:00: Bromoil prints and bromoil transfers with soft inks. A demo by René Smets

  • 13:00 - 14:00: Lunch

  • 14:00 - 15:00: My experiments with oil printing - by René Smets
A status report on his latest experiments. Equipment, procedures, results, open questions. Discussion time.

  • 15:00 - 15:30: "Using liquid emulsions for bromoil" by René Smets
A status report on his latest experiments. Equipment, procedures, results, open questions. Discussion time.

  • 15:30 - 15:50: Break.

  • 16:00h -16:30h -- "Using supercoated papers for bromoil"
Introduction Jacques Kevers. Status report by René Smets, Hubert Desgain & J. Kevers
Latest experiments, procedures, results, open questions. Discussion time.

  • 16:30 - 17:00 (if time schedule permits): "Léonard Misonne"
A video presentation by Jacques Kevers

  • 17:00 - 17:45 : Print exchange - Final "Questions & answers" time: Any questions related to bromoil, alternative processes, activities within national groups, etc.. are welcome.
As for the print exchange: each participant wanting to participate has to provide on Saturday morning one bromoil (or oil print) he made. The print should be wrapped in plain paper. The principle: you submit a print of yours and draw someone else's, at random.
Suggested size of the (matted) print approx. 12x16 inch - 30x40 cm, but of course whatever you have will be fine.
It would be nice to have each bromoil signed.
  • 19:00 - 20:00: Public opening of the Exhibition
  • 21:00 - 22:30 -- "Sleepless Night 08" with two inking demos by René Smets

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5th

  • 10:00 - 11:00: Portfolios Presentations
Each participant is encouraged to introduce him/herself and her/his work. No obligation of course. Question time after each presentation.

  • 11:00 - 11:15: Break

  • 11:15 - 12:45: Portfolios Presentations (continued).

  • 12:45 - 13:00 : Final conclusions, adjourn & end of the formal meetings

Any comment, question and/or suggestion will be most welcome!
